We just completed the McAllen International Travel Show which happens during the first week of January every year. We are proud that this was the 22nd consecutive year for this show which features exhibitors from literally around the world. We had over 120 booths featuring about 112 exhibitors from Mexico, the Rio Grand Valley, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Nebraska, Kansas, Canada, Europe and Asia. We had eight cruise lines who also conduced special presentations featuring Alaska and other favorite cruise destinations. Over 12,000 people attended the free show and the exhibitors noted that this may have been the most productive show ever. Next year's dates are Wednesday and Thursday, January 5 and 6.
Tell your friends to come and "let's meet in McAllen.

Perfect weekend for some fun
This seems to me to be the perfect weekend to go out and have some fun. The holidays are over and we're back to our regular routines... but the memories of holiday parties still linger, making us think that all the fun shouldn't be over so soon. I know- let's make a new holiday- call it Let Down Night! That's as in "let down your hair" (a really old saying meaning relax and have some fun)... or as in "if you feel let down after the holidays, let's go out."
I like it.
And 17th Street is calling.

New Ideas and Activities for a New Year
We are always making New Years resolutions that are not feasable or that we get burned out on and give up on. Why not try looking at the New year in a different way. Try new things; things that you didn't know you could. You would be surprised what we offer here at the Incubator. Ever wanted to learn Ballroom Dancing? What about Oil Painting? Yoga has always been a positive way to relieve stress and get yourself healthy. And of course, there is pottery. We offer so many different activities at the McAllen Creative Incubator and they are all reasonably priced. You should look into it. Call Greg Schuller at 956-687-2787 for more information on these and other activities offered.

Mexican Fiscal Reforms
In the conference aisisti this day, commenting on the Fiscal Reforms that began to take effect in 2011, where there will be a huge tax increase, plus all Mexican merchants must print their invoices electronically, and will be collated by the Ministry of Finance, this is to prevent tax evasion.

Feliz Dia de Reyes
Tradition has it that came from the East, three wise men, and they were guided by a star (The Star of Bethlehem) which led them to Bethlehem. They sought the newborn Jesus and worshiped him, offering gold (representing its true nature as a present given to the kings), incense (representing his divine nature, used in worship at the altars of God) and myrrh (a compound embalmer for the dead, representing the future suffering and death of Jesus).
In central and southern Mexico, the children write a letter to the Wise Kings asking for the gifts they want and ensuring their good behavior during the year.
Throughout Mexico and it is customary to share a family meal (roll) on Jan. 6, a Rosca de Reyes, hiding several small plastic dolls that represent the baby Jesus, one who at the time the thread is from one of them is charge of making tamales and atole or inviting 2 February, honoring Saint Candelaria... So wait for an invitation.

Cultural Arts Classes for 2010
We started the New Year off with a Cumbia Dance Workshop last night that was excellent. The presenter, Sam Montezco from DCM, taught the 60 plus people in attendance the basic steps of the Cumbia and then some. We had over 30 people who were walk-ins, so needless to say the Auditorium was packed. Our next Cultural Arts & Entertainment Series (CAES) workshop is Tuesday, January 19th and will be a Yoga Workshop presented by Irma Burr. For an up to date listing of all CAES Workshops planned for this year, go to www.mcallenart.com or contact Greg Schuller at 956-687-2787 for more information.
