The first section of the mosaic "Starry Starry Valley" was unveiled Wednesday morning. Educator Rina Roberts, art teacher for Memorial High School, has been working on this for years, and the first sections are now up at the corner of 2nd Street and Hackberry. She and her students need lots and lots- and lots- of tile to complete the project. If you have any leftover tiles from a decorating project, or broken tiles, please bring them by the Chamber of Commerce building at 1200 Ash Avenue. We'll collect them and deliver them to Ms. Roberts and her hard-working team.
Do go by and view the beginning of the mosaic that's been installed, and then imagine how gorgeous it will look when it's finished. You can also help work on it yourself if you like. Just get in touch with Memorial High School's art department to find out where and when.
This project is being made possible by financial assistance from the McAllen Chamber of Commerce's McAllen Arts Council grants and by Keep McAllen Beautiful, a department of the City. It's just one more way that the City and the Chamber are showing their committment to the arts.
